Whether you’re an Austinite from birth or just paying a visit, there are endless reasons to love Austin, Texas. Although Austin may not be home to any professional sports teams, its residents thrive on the city’s unique culture that fosters the “Keep Austin Weird” mantra. From the breathtaking views of Mount Bonnell to the camaraderie of a Longhorn football game, Austin is a place to love and call home. Here is why we love Austin (and you should too!)
1. The music scene is unlike any other
There’s a reason Austin is proclaimed as the “live music capital of the world.” Iconic music venues throughout the city such as Stubbs BBQ, ACL Live, and Emo’s have hosted legends from Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash to Coldplay and Radiohead. Every October music lovers flock to Zilker Park for the Austin City Limits Festival – an event hosting 130+ artists from around the world. The music scene is any Austinite’s pride and joy making the city a place to discover and be discovered.
2. The swimming holes
If you’re looking for a place to beat the heat, Austin has got you covered. From the ice cold waters of Barton Springs to the serene waterfalls of McKinney Falls, Austin is home to the best swimming holes that are perfect getaways on any summer day. Take a trip to Dripping Springs, Texas to visit the historic Hamilton Pool Reserve or conquer your fear of heights by taking a plunge into Jacob’s Well.
3. The food is top-notch
From the massive tacos at Juan In A Million to the greasy goodness of Home Slice, you’ll never go hungry in Austin. Stop by the beloved Gordough’s food truck for The Flying Pig, a donut topped with bacon strips and a delicious maple glaze. Next, pick up a “damn good taco” at the legendary Torchy’s Tacos for lunch or dinner. Top off your day with a visit to Hey Cupcake!, one of the first food trailers in Austin. Not only is the food truck scene unforgettable, but the BBQ is awesome as well. Austin is home to iconic joints like Franklin BBQ and Salt Lick that will make any food lover’s mouth water.
4. The art
Take a trip toward the UT campus to snap a picture in front of the “Hi, How Are You?” wall, or pose with your significant other by the “I love you so much” wall on South Congress. These two iconic works of art are just a couple of examples that make Austin so special. The Castle Hill Graffiti Park, a popular tourist attraction, is a colorful and fun hangout to visit as well. Be sure to climb to the top of the hill to witness an awesome view of the Austin skyline!
