Fort Worth is known for its country roots, great barbecue, and historical background. If you want to experience many of the great things about Fort Worth and get a taste of Western culture, then a trip to the Fort Worth Stock Yards is a must. A weekend in the Stockyards and you’ll never want to leave.
Where to Eat?
Fort Worth is home to some pretty amazing Tex-Mex restaurants, but if you want to experience what authentic Tex-Mex food tastes like, then you’ll probably want to head over to Los Vaqueros. As founders of Los Vaqueros, the Cisneros family has put in over time the past few decades to bring traditional Mexican food to the city of Fort Worth. While they currently have three locations, their first, the one in the Stockyards, is by far the best. Passed down family recipes, the freshest ingredients, and a fun and live atmosphere, Los Vaqueros is a must anytime you’re in the Stockyards or even in Fort Worth in general.
Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que
As mentioned before, Fort Worth knows good barbecue. The Stockyards features one of the best barbecue spots in Fort Worth and it goes by the name of Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que. Opened originally in Llano, Tx back in 1953, the owners of Cooper’s saw it only right they open their restaurant in the great city of Fort Worth, and they had no doubt in their mind the Stockyards was the perfect location. Cooper’s offers authentic Texas barbecue, great service, and a spacious party room for those special events. If you’ve ever been to the Llano location, then you know just how good the barbecue is, and the Fort Worth location will meet your exact expectations.
Fun and Entertainment
Billy Bob’s Texas
Maybe you’ve never heard of the Stockyards, but if you’ve ever been to Fort Worth you’ve for sure heard of Billy Bob’s. That’s because Billy Bob’s is the largest honky tonk in the world. It features an indoor rodeo arena, a Texas size dance floor, a general store, plenty of bar stations, restaurants, concerts, arcade games and so much more. Billy Bob’s is a true experience that embraces an authentic Texas atmosphere. If you don’t go anywhere else while in Fort Worth, you must stop here.
Stockyards Championship Rodeo
If you’re familiar with Texas at all, then you know that the state offers some pretty amazing rodeos. However, this rodeo is a tad more special than the rest because it’s all year round. The Stockyards hosts a rodeo every Friday and Saturday night at 8 pm, so you’ll never have to miss the rodeo experience. Every week the show features bull riding, barrel racing, break away roping and other rodeo competitions. A great outing for the family and especially fun for the little ones, this year-round rodeo can’t be missed.
