Red River MusicFest
The Chevy Main Stage at the west end of the grounds offers a free concert series, and this weekend, it’s going to host the Red River MusicFest. With free shows including Deryl Dodd and Casey Donahew Band, you’ll be sure to get in the spirit of the fair with some Texas country music. Check out the full lineup here.
Red River Showdown Biscuit Cook-Off
Nothing’s more Texan than this buttery breakfast bread, so don’t miss the competition for the title of best biscuit. This event is part of the State Fair’s Chili, BBQ, & Dutch Oven Cook-Off and will happen on Saturday, October 10 at 9:30am at the Creative Arts Celebrity Chef Kitchen.
Does the sound of biscuits make you hungry? That’s just the beginning—the State Fair offers a fried fest showcasing the extra-crispy version of just about every food you can imagine. This year’s newcomers to the lineup include deep-fried brisket, deep-fried pumpkin spice Oreos, and even deep-fried sweet tea!
Big Tex’s Barnyard
The kids will love this educational exhibit featuring calves, piglets, and chicks. After all, who doesn’t love baby farm animals? Be sure to bring your camera to capture photo-ops with Big Tex and the barnyard animals. This event runs Sunday from 10:00am-6:00pm in Cattle Barn 1.
Museums at Fair Park
Fair Park’s 277 acres are home to seven museums, including the Children’s Aquarium, Texas Discovery Gardens, and the African American Museum. Take a break from the sun and head inside to one of these history- and nature-filled spots!
