Tucked away 35 miles southwest of Fort Worth, Granbury sits at the border of the Upper Hill Country and North Texas. The town was founded in 1887 and combines a unique historic charm with modern-day luxury. Complete with an opera house, wineries, boutiques, and much more, Granbury is the ideal location for your weekend getaway.

Granbury’s historic square sets the benchmark for downtown revitalization. The city’s center is a bustling affair, offering a wide range of leisure activities and culinary delights such as Ketzler’s Schnitzel Haus and Biergarten – a family owned, German style restaurant churning out traditional food and beer in the style of North-Westfahlen, Germany.

Also located downtown, the Granbury Opera House is the pinnacle of Granbury’s arts and cultural district. Built in 1886 and recently refurbished to the period, the playhouse is home to the Granbury Theatre Company, which hosts Broadway productions and other performances throughout the year. The 2016 season includes productions of “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Hello Dolly,” “Oliver” and “Meet Me in St. Louis.”

Granbury is also home to several award-winning wineries to suit the needs of our thirstier readers. D’vine Wine’s storefront is located on the historic downtown square and their mission is to “bring friends and community together through love of wine” – sounds good to us! Knowledgeable wine associates are ready to assist both the seasoned connoisseur and newcomers in their goal of finding the perfect wine.

If wine isn’t quite your thing, fear not because Granbury is also home to the Revolver Brewing Company, one of the fastest growing microbreweries in the state.  Family owned and operated, Revolver Brewing uses fresh water from the nearby Trinity River, as well as seasonal local ingredients to create their custom made brews. Every Saturday 12-3pm the brewery offers tours, tastings, and live music for only $10. And you get to keep the custom logo pint glass!

Aside from the local gastronomy, Granbury boasts tons of local entertainment, including the Brazos Drive-In Theatre, Granbury Skate Rink, Show Biz Cinemas, Pins Bowling Alley, and the Big City Music Revue, making it nearly impossible to run out of things to do and places to see! For some fun-in-the-sun be sure to visit the picturesque Lake Granbury, complete with a sandy beach for lounging and enjoying the views.

This place has a lot to offer and visitors would be hard-pressed to squeeze everything into just one visit, so don’t rush! Just relax and enjoy the down-home pleasures that Granbury does best and begin planning your return trip to this charming little city.
