Canyon
Canyon, settled in 1887 as the headquarters of the T Anchor Ranch, was named for its location next to beautiful Palo Duro Canyon, the second-largest in the world. West Texas A&M University, where artist Georgia O’Keeffe once taught, is also here. The Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, the largest history museum in Texas, was built in 1933 on campus out of native Texas stone. The facade bears decorative carvings, and its front doors are emblazoned with famous ranch brands from the region. Inside is a log cabin from the T Anchor Ranch. Don’t miss seeing the summer musical TEXAS! in the canyon’s amphitheater, an experience you won’t soon forget.

Don’t miss Texas’s largest history museum, with 2 million artifacts and 22 galleries. Pioneer Town, a reconstructed late 19th century Panhandle village, invites visitors to experience our Western heritage firsthand. Other sections of the museum are devoted to the oil boom years, the transportation of the area, and a fine collection of Southwestern art. The many diverse exhibits include archaeology, textiles, art history, and paleontology. Call or visit website for hours, fees, group rates, and tours.
