The town of Georgetown, founded in 1848, boasts a traditional courthouse square that earned a Great American Main Street award and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Victorian buildings surrounding the square have been transformed into quaint antiques shops, bookstores, and bed-and-breakfasts. The striking campus of Southwestern University is an integral part of the entire community. The Candle Factory offers tours, and visitors can observe as more than 1,000 varieties of hand-dipped candles being made. At Inner Space Cavern you can see evidence of ice age animals amid fantastic cave formations.

| This cavern contains remnants of prehistoric mastodons, wolves, and other ice age animals. Pan for gemstones at the cavern’s mining sluice and browse the aboveground gift shop. Try the standard 3/4-mile Adventure Tour or the one-mile Explorer Tour, which provides each spelunker with a flashlight to “explore” newly opened trails. Or have a truly “cavey” experience, geared up with a lighted helmet and elbow and knee pads, on the Third Wild Cave Tour. Call or visit website for hours, fees, and group rates. Visitors center is accessible to the mobility-impaired; cave is not. |
